How learnchess.fun teaches chess

learnchess.fun is a free chess trainer in the browser. The method is simple: watch the idea, play the key move yourself, then drill it with spaced repetition until the right move feels obvious.

Why drills beat a single lesson

The best way to learn chess is not to binge a course and hope it sticks. A line you saw once will fade. A line you play, miss, and see again at the right interval becomes automatic. That is what spaced repetition is for.

We apply that cycle to three phases of the game: openings, middlegames, and endgames. You can start as a guest. An account saves progress.

  1. 1

    Watch the idea

Every line has a reason. You see the moves, the recapture, and the typical plan before you are asked to play.

  2. 2

    Play it yourself

Then you take the side you want to learn. The trainer waits on your move. Guessing from a book is not the same as finding the move on a board.

  3. 3

    Repeat until it is automatic

Spaced repetition brings the line back before it fades. The goal is not to finish a chapter. The goal is that the right move feels obvious.
